The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) is pleased to The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) is pleased to announce the appointment of Captain (Capt.) Jesse Haggart-Smith as the pilot for the 2022 CF-18 Demonstration Team.

Capt. Haggart-Smith will wow audiences around Canada during the 2022 air show season, flying his specially-painted CF-18 Hornet commemorating RCAF fighter aircraft operations at home and abroad.

Born in Maple Ridge, B.C., Capt. Jesse Haggart-Smith has logged nearly 1,000 hours in military jet aircraft including 600 hours in the CF-18. He has served on NORAD missions and deployed to Romania with Operation REASSURANCE as part of Canada’s contribution to NATO’s enhanced Air Policing mission.

From a young age Capt. Haggart-Smith was interested in becoming a pilot with the RCAF. When he was 12 years old he joined 583 Coronation Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Cadets, where he would earn his glider pilots’ licence before enrolling in the Royal Military College of Canada at the age of 16.

In 2011, Capt. Haggart-Smith was accepted into the RCAF, and was given the opportunity to pursue his dream of becoming a fighter pilot and flying the CF-18 Hornet. Receiving his RCAF pilot’s wings in 2016, Capt. Haggart-Smith attained his goal, completing his initial fighter qualification training at 410 Tactical Fighter (Operational Training) Squadron at 4 Wing, Cold Lake, Alberta in 2018.

Capt. Haggart-Smith is presently the Unit Flight Safety Officer and a two-ship lead at 401 Tactical Fighter Squadron at 4 Wing in Cold Lake, Alberta.

“It is an incredible honour to be selected to represent the Royal Canadian Air Force as the CF-18 Demonstration Team pilot for the 2022 season. I am looking forward to being a part of this highly dedicated team of professionals, sharing my passion for aviation with everyone as we travel across Canada this summer. I hope our team will inspire Canadians, motivating them to reach for their dreams, as I did when I decided to become a fighter pilot, while at the same time demonstrating the capabilities of RCAF fighter aircraft.” Captain Jesse Haggart-Smith, CF-18 Demonstration Team Pilot

Recently, cadets and staff from 335 Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps Calgary participated in a mental health workshop facilitated by trained mental health professionals from @The Family Centre of Northern Alberta.

The workshop was conducted at the request of senior cadets from the corps, who wanted to learn active strategies to improve their mental well-being rather than merely being provided resources. During the workshop, cadets had the opportunity to learn about mental health, stress, resiliency, tools for self-care, and coping strategies.

Cadets and staff had the opportunity to practice some coping strategies including breathing exercises to reduce stress and cortisol levels, such as box breathing techniques, doing some meditation, and performing a visualization exercise. Overall it was a very informative and interesting night for all who attended.
Good evening 583. Some of you may have seen the an Good evening 583. Some of you may have seen the announcement from the Provincial Health Officer today advising that some of the restrictions are being lifted as of 2359 hrs tomorrow.

What does that mean for us you might ask and some have 😁?

I know that everyone is anxious to return to In-person training as soon as possible but as of tonight there has been no change to our training posture and we are still virtual for indoor training until further notice and will be on Zoom on Thursday. If the authority to move to In-person training changes prior to Thursday night I will consult the staff to make sure any changes can be done in a timely and safe manner before we move back to In-person training as there are other factors to consider.

Today marks 70 years of service for Her Majesty Th Today marks 70 years of service for Her Majesty The Queen, making her the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee. Her Majesty is Captain General of The Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery, Air Commodore-in-Chief of the Air Reserve, and Colonel-in Chief of 14 Canadian Armed Forces Regiments and Branches.

Did you know? Wanting to do more than accompany tours of the British armed forces with family during the Second World War, she joined the Women’s Auxiliary Territorial Service - the female branch of the British army - in February of 1945. She trained as a driver, mechanic, and was later promoted to Junior Commander. Today, she is the last surviving head of state who served during the Second World War.

Our best wishes to Her Majesty The Queen as she celebrates this milestone occasion.
