Biathlon Fitness training- need more team members

Dress is sports gear; dress for the weather (including a running jacket, hat and gloves) and bring a water bottle with water. At Osprey Village. OPI Capt Middelveen; coach: CV Underwood.

We have started our sprinting & aerobic conditioning training for biathlon. We are meeting at The Stomping Grounds coffee shop in Osprey Village at 10:00 am on Sundays. We have 8 cadets:  A/Sgt Halstead (Team Captain), FCpl Han, A/FCpl Tryon,  AC Liu, AC Nichols, AC Pangilinan, AC Zheng, AC Zhao, AC Zhan, signed up so far. If your name is on the list, please come to training! If you’re no longer interested, please let me know. We need more team members. If you’re interested, please come and join us and we’ll add you to the team roster. Cadet participants are to run at least twice per week, 2km before the next training. Cadets can download “Map My Run” and it will record distance and time (there are other tracker apps such as Google Fit, Adidas Sports, Asics Runkeeper or Nike Run Club). Note that as part of your level training, you are supposed to track your physical activity anyway, using the Physical Activity Tracker available from the Sqn web page.

This Week: meet at 10:00 am. 2 km warm up, then stretch; 2 km moderate – 5 min recovery; 2 km moderate fast – 5 min recovery; 2 km speed. Finish by 11:30. Each week moderate and speed time goals are to shorten and an additional leg added. Ultimate goal is 10 km (2 km x 5 times) with increase in speed at each interval.

Note: The Zone and Regional biathlon competitions are scheduled for:

  • Stage 2 – Run & Shoot, January 27th & 28th 2024 at the Abbotsford Agriplex
    • Deadline for registration is January 5th 2024.
  • Stage 3 – Ski & Shoot, Mar/Apr 2024 at Sovereign Lake Vernon (TBD)
