Biathlon Fitness training

1000 – 1130 hrs. Dress is sports gear; dress for the weather. At Osprey Village. OPI Capt Middelveen.

We will be starting our sprinting & aerobic conditioning training for biathlon. The current plan is to meet at The Stomping Grounds coffee shop in Osprey Village at 10:00 am on Sundays (first date will be November 26th). The short term training program is as follows:

Week 1: meet at 10:00 am. 2.5 km warm up, slow pace. Stretch, 5-6 minutes. 2.5 km moderate. Finish by 11:30.

Following weeks: 2 km warm up- stretch;  2 km moderate – 10 min recovery;  2 km speed. Finish by noon. Each week moderate and speed time goals are to shorten and an additional leg added. Ultimate goal is 10 km (2 km x 5 times) with increase in speed at each interval. This will enable our competitors for the run & shoot competition to be well prepared for the 1K or 1.5K legs, depending on age, i.e. under or over 16. Details TBC with the organizers.

Team members have been emailed. Please reply to the email to indicate your interest. Let me know if the day of week (Sunday) time of day (10 am to noon) or location (Osprey Village) are not compatible with your ability to attend and let us know if there is a preferred day (e.g. Saturday), or location (e.g. LHQ/Albion Park) that you would otherwise be able to attend and we may adjust depending on responses.

The Zone and Regional biathlon competitions are scheduled for:

  • Stage 2 – Run & Shoot, January 27th & 28th 2024 at the Abbotsford Agriplex
    • Deadline for registration is January 5th 2024.
  • Stage 3 – Ski & Shoot, Mar/Apr 2024 at Sovereign Lake Vernon (TBD)
